Strep B and Hematuria

Question:

“I am 64  female. I had a recent urine culture that came out positive for Strep B.  I have just finished 10 days of Doxycycline.  I have  had small amount of blood on toilet paper twice now, once before meds, and again today after finishing the meds.  I have a Cystocele also. I was wondering what to do next?.”

Answer:

Group B strep is a vaginal bacteria and rarely the cause of UTI.  You should be thoroughly checked for the cause of the bleeding (Hematuria).  If the cystocele bothers you or causes recurrent infections it should be fixed.
